Guy Fawkes has become synonymous with the Gunpowder Plot – a plan to assassinate King James I within Westminster Palace, the failure of which has been commemorated in Britain since 5 November 1605. His effigy is traditionally burned on a bonfire, commonly accompanied by a fireworks display.
Gut Fawkes day is November 5th every year, although celebrations are also held at the weekend before or after if the date falls midweek.
