Benwell produced fireworks from 1949, the brand had been taken over by Feistel Fireworks. They were made in Draycott Derbyshire until the seventies and then moved to the old Wizard Fireworks works at Chedburgh.
The manufacturers/suppliers of the brand was Haley and Weller (toymakers) who supplied displays to the Government. The Chedburgh works carried on until 1988 when firework production ceased all together, the name being taken over and kept alive.
The name derives from BENjamin WELLer, one of the original partners who had the interest in pyrotechnics.
